It has been difficult for the average owner to access the tuning world for their early model Subaru without pricey standalone ECU management. With the introduction of this affordable and user-friendly package, it is now easier than ever.
Fox JDM is proud to be a Canadian distributor of ECUlabs hardware and software.
The package includes:
-ECU modification to accept custom mapping via OpenPort interface.
-High end complete software suite with complete tech support.
-Easy and fast flashing procedure.
-No splicing of harnesses or modification to car is needed. Original ECU connection is retained.
-Live-tuning: you can modify the data at any time and send it to the ECU in one click for instant setting. What may take several minutes when re-flashing (stop the car, shutdown the engine, ...) is done in one second!
-E85 and injectors management
-Multi-Maps (up to 4 and sometimes 6)
-Flex-fuel, with an inline Ethanol content sensor maps and parameters are automatically adjusted to suit in real time.
-GBBC (Gear Based Boost Control)
-Spool-up mode: this exclusive function allow to attain the boost target as fast as possible, including while shifting. In this mode the boost solenoid is kept open at its maximum while the boost rises. This function can be completely customized (minimal throttle opening, boost threshold).
Race functions- Extra Cost (can be added individually after purchase without sending ECU again)

For earlier models 1993-97, there is another option that is very similar to ECULabs that also retains the stock ECU. It is comparable in price as well. Email or call for more details.
Subaru Diagnostics & ECU Logging
We have the software to diagnose Subaru vehicles made after 1998, with plans to include 1993-97 as well very soon. This includes JDM, as well North American market cars. We can also log sensor outputs in real time and record the data for playback, making elusive/intermittent problems (misfire, rich/lean running, stumbles, and other problems) that don't necessarily throw engine codes.

- Launch control: this function allows very quick launches by making boost while the car is standing still. You just need to keep the throttle fully open and release the clutch. You select the best RPM (for example 4000 RPM), the boost level and the ignition timing retard. All these parameters will lead to more or less boost and so more or less torque.
- Anti-lag: like launch control, the anti-lag goal is to produce boost in situations where it is normally impossible, mainly when shifting or braking. When anti-lag is activated the injection time is raised and the ignition timing is retarded to burn fuel into the exhaust manifold and spin up the turbo to make boost.
- Full throttle shifting: this function allows to keep the throttle fully open when shifting avoiding turbo lag. The ideal RPM for up shifting is calculated automatically and the ECU limits it to this value to avoid a drive-line shock when engaging the clutch again. That meets the same objective as anti-lag but puts usually less stress on the engine.
Other useful functions
- Wide-band O2 sensor: plug a 5v output from your wide-band controller on the ECU to allow reading the AFR through ECU monitoring with only one interface. Furthermore you can activate cloed-loop mode from the WBO2 input instead of the narrow-band sensor found in pre-2001 cars. A 3D table let you define the target AFR, no need to target lambda 1 in closed-loop mode anymore.
- Safety and warnings: the Check Engine Light (CEL) turns on or blinks to warn the driver about abnormal events (knock, overheating, sensors failure, etc.). On old cars (pre-2001) where the MAP sensor is connected through a hose the latter can leak or be disconnected cancelling boost control by the ECU. To avoid this problem the boost solenoid is kept closed while the MAP isn't above the atmospheric pressure, confirming the hose is in good condition.
- Protection and non-disclosure: every EcuLabs ECU gets its own key and password to assure that no unauthorized people can read the data and copy them.
